【June 7】18th Book Reuse Café | Otofuke Town


Give your books a second life at the 18th Book Reuse Café, held on Saturday, June 7 at the Prosupa 6 Hall in Otofuke Town. Organized by the Obihiro Otani College Library, this event allows visitors to browse and take home used books and magazines freely—ranging from novels to manga and more.

This year, attendees will also receive an original mini notebook made from upcycled picture book covers created in collaboration with students from Hokkaido Obihiro School for the Deaf (limited quantity available). Whether you’re a passionate reader or just enjoy a treasure hunt, this event promises joyful discoveries.

【June 7】Climate Fresk Workshop – Explore Climate Change


In honor of World Environment Day, join us for the “Climate Fresk” workshop—a fun and informative way to learn about climate change. Originating in France, Climate Fresk is a card-based, participatory program that uses 42 cards to help participants understand the mechanisms and impacts of climate change through dialogue and teamwork.

During the event, you’ll discuss pressing local topics—like typhoons and extreme weather becoming more common even in Tokachi—and explore meaningful actions you can take. Though environmental issues may seem complex, this engaging, game-like approach makes the topic accessible to all.

【June 8】Early Summer Nature Walk | Nakasatsunai Village


Take a refreshing stroll through nature! On Saturday, June 8, the “Early Summer Nature Walk” will take place at the Satsunai River Campground in Nakasatsunai Village. Your guide will be outdoor expert Mutsumi Tezuka, certified by the Hokkaido Governor.

This walking event invites you to observe local flowers and birds along the Satsunai River area, fully experiencing the lush scenery of early summer. It’s also perfect for young children’s first nature exploration. Space is limited, so be sure to register early if interested!

【June 14】Boy Scouts Experience “Parent-Child Pizza-Making” | Otofuke Town

Enjoy outdoor cooking with your family! On Saturday, June 14, the “Parent-Child Pizza-Making Experience” will be held at the Project House inside Tokachi Ecology Park in Otofuke Town.
This hands-on program invites elementary school-aged children and their parents to knead dough and bake fresh pizza in a stone oven outdoors. The piping-hot pizza made together tastes especially delicious! Why not spend a relaxing day in nature with your family this season?

Michi-no-Eki Kamishihoro celebrates its 5th anniversary in 2025! To mark the occasion, the two-day event “Kamishihoro Kids Station” will be held on June 14 (Sat) and 15 (Sun), offering fun experiences for both kids and adults.

【June 14–15】Waku Waku Kids Festa 2025 in Ecopa | Otofuke Town


This early summer, the much-loved “Waku Waku Kids Festa 2025” returns to Tokachi Ecology Park in Otofuke! Held on June 14 (Sat) and 15 (Sun), the event is packed with action and excitement for energetic kids.

The park will feature giant inflatable playgrounds where children can bounce and play to their hearts’ content. Kids will also enjoy exhibitions of eco-friendly vehicles and real military trucks, giving them a chance to get up close with the vehicles they admire—perfect for photo ops and exploration!

【June 15】International Yoga Day Tokachi

Relax your body and mind amidst the beautiful nature of Tokachi. In celebration of International Yoga Day, “International Yoga Day Tokachi 2025” will be held again this year at Midorigaoka Park in Obihiro. This outdoor yoga event at the Green Stage Plaza, surrounded by lush greenery, marks its 5th year. Open to all ages and skill levels, everyone is welcome to join!

The main event “Let’s Do Park Yoga Together!” starts at 10:00 AM

Mr. Sanjay Kumar from the Embassy of India in Tokyo will lead a session of authentic yet beginner-friendly yoga. Stretching out comfortably on the grass is sure to leave you feeling refreshed, body and soul.

Before and after the main session, there will also be individual yoga classes led by instructors from within and outside Hokkaido (advance reservation required; some classes may have a fee). [June 21 & 22] Ecopa Seasonal Event: Enjoy the Long Days│Otofuke Town

Spend a peaceful time in nature during the summer solstice. On Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22, Tokachi Ecology Park will host a seasonal event called “Ecopa Seasonal Event: Enjoy the Long Days.”

During the event, the popular “Fluffy Dome” for kids will have extended hours! [June 21 – July 20] Hidaka Mountain Range Photo Exhibition │ Nakasatsunai Village

To commemorate the first anniversary of the designation of the Hidaka Sanmyaku Erimo Tokachi National Park, a photo exhibition will be held at Satsunai River Park in Nakasatsunai Village starting June 21. This is a great opportunity to discover new expressions and attractions of the Hidaka Mountains through 12 breathtaking photographs.

The exhibition features works by amateur photographers Shogo Iwata and Yusuke Kitai, who share a passion for mountaineering. Their photos, taken during their climbing experiences, capture the authentic beauty of the mountains and will resonate with both photography and outdoor enthusiasts.

Special Talk Event: “The Hidaka Mountains Through a Photographer’s Eyes” on June 21

On the opening day of the photo exhibition, a related talk event titled “The Hidaka Mountains Through a Photographer’s Eyes” will also be held. During the talk, the photographers will share their perspectives and behind-the-scenes stories from their shoots. The event will also include aerial footage screenings and tips on photographing mountains even from city areas. It’s a must-attend for anyone interested in mountains, photography, or scenic landscapes. All attendees will receive a commemorative gift.

[June 22] Urahoro Marathon 2025 │ Urahoro Town

Even if you’re not running, there’s plenty to enjoy! Urahoro Marathon 2025, a beloved early summer event in Urahoro Town, will take place on Sunday, June 22. This annual event brings the entire town to life with runners and supporters alike.

Although entries for most events—like the Kids Challenge (1km, 2km, 4km), 5km run, relay marathon, and 5km walk—have already closed, same-day registration is available for preschoolers in the “First Step” race. Even just watching and cheering offers a fun-filled day at this community-focused marathon.

On the day of the event, the venue will feature interactive booths such as the “Goal Picnic” and “Job Try-Land.” Enjoy local food vendors and hands-on experiences for kids to try different jobs—making it a perfect family-friendly outing.

[June 22] 18th Footpath Walking │ Otofuke Town

The “Footpath Walking” event offers a relaxing walk through the lush early summer scenery and will be held on Saturday, June 22, at Tokachi Ecology Park. This year’s course is the “Hilly Course” that extends through the Tokachigawa Onsen area. Participants will take a round-trip walk of about 5 km from the Visitor Center to the Tokachigaoka Observatory. It’s a perfect opportunity to refresh your body and mind while tuning into the often-overlooked whispers of nature.

Participation costs 1,000 yen (includes insurance and lunch). For young children, the fee is 100 yen (insurance only). Children in elementary school or younger must be accompanied by a guardian, and strollers are not allowed. The event is limited to 10 participants, so early registration is recommended. Dress comfortably for the weather and enjoy a pleasant walk in nature!

Giant Floral Clock Hanakku

“Hanakku” is a giant floral clock located in Tokachigaoka Park, measuring 18 meters in diameter. The vivid flowerbeds and lush greenery of the park create a picturesque contrast, making it a perfect stop during your walk.

The path from the main road to the floral clock is known as “Welcome Hanakku.” Along the way, visitors can take breaks, enjoy soft-serve ice cream, and spend a relaxing time immersed in nature.

Once again this year, Naitai Terrace is open at Naitai Highland Farm — Japan’s largest public pasture, covering an area of 17 million square meters (equivalent to 358 Tokyo Domes).
