【June 7】18th Book Reuse Café | Otofuke Town
Give your books a second life at the 18th Book Reuse Café, held on Saturday, June 7 at the Prosupa 6 Hall in Otofuke Town. Organized by the Obihiro Otani College Library, this event allows visitors to browse and take home used books and magazines freely—ranging from novels to manga and more.
This year, attendees will also receive an original mini notebook made from upcycled picture book covers created in collaboration with students from Hokkaido Obihiro School for the Deaf (limited quantity available). Whether you’re a passionate reader or just enjoy a treasure hunt, this event promises joyful discoveries.

【June 7】Climate Fresk Workshop – Explore Climate Change
In honor of World Environment Day, join us for the “Climate Fresk” workshop—a fun and informative way to learn about climate change. Originating in France, Climate Fresk is a card-based, participatory program that uses 42 cards to help participants understand the mechanisms and impacts of climate change through dialogue and teamwork.
During the event, you’ll discuss pressing local topics—like typhoons and extreme weather becoming more common even in Tokachi—and explore meaningful actions you can take. Though environmental issues may seem complex, this engaging, game-like approach makes the topic accessible to all.

【June 15】International Yoga Day Tokachi
Relax your body and mind amidst the beautiful nature of Tokachi. In celebration of International Yoga Day, “International Yoga Day Tokachi 2025” will be held again this year at Midorigaoka Park in Obihiro. [June 21 – July 20] Hidaka Mountain Range Photo Exhibition │ Nakasatsunai Village
To commemorate the first anniversary of the designation of the Hidaka Sanmyaku Erimo Tokachi National Park, a photo exhibition will be held at Satsunai River Park in Nakasatsunai Village starting June 21. This is a great opportunity to discover new expressions and attractions of the Hidaka Mountains through 12 breathtaking photographs.
The exhibition features works by amateur photographers Shogo Iwata and Yusuke Kitai, who share a passion for mountaineering. Their photos, taken during their climbing experiences, capture the authentic beauty of the mountains and will resonate with both photography and outdoor enthusiasts.
Special Talk Event: “The Hidaka Mountains Through a Photographer’s Eyes” on June 21
On the opening day of the photo exhibition, a related talk event titled “The Hidaka Mountains Through a Photographer’s Eyes” will also be held. [June 22] Urahoro Marathon 2025 │ Urahoro Town
Even if you’re not running, there’s plenty to enjoy! Urahoro Marathon 2025, a beloved early summer event in Urahoro Town, will take place on Sunday, June 22. This annual event brings the entire town to life with runners and supporters alike.
Although entries for most events—like the Kids Challenge (1km, 2km, 4km), 5km run, relay marathon, and 5km walk—have already closed, same-day registration is available for preschoolers in the “First Step” race. The “Footpath Walking” event offers a relaxing walk through the lush early summer scenery and will be held on Saturday, June 22, at Tokachi Ecology Park. This year’s course is the “Hilly Course” that extends through the Tokachigawa Onsen area. Participants will take a round-trip walk of about 5 km from the Visitor Center to the Tokachigaoka Observatory. It’s a perfect opportunity to refresh your body and mind while tuning into the often-overlooked whispers of nature.
Participation costs 1,000 yen (includes insurance and lunch). For young children, the fee is 100 yen (insurance only).
